How Religion Defines Us

Hi, I’m Justine. I was born into a Christian family, and my husband Maamoon is Muslim. While I haven’t converted, we have built a home grounded in mutual respect for each other’s beliefs and cultures. I support Maamoon in his faith and do my best to learn everything I can about Islam so I can help guide our children in the right direction. We’re raising them as Muslims while also teaching them to appreciate the diversity of religions and the value of empathy, understanding, and respect.

Stepping outside my Comfort Zone: A Guide to Discovery

From Confused to Curious (and Still Learning)

Hey there! I’m so glad you found your way here.

I’m a mom who grew up Christian, married to a hardworking Muslim man, and we’re raising two little ones in a home that blends both of our worlds—lots of love, culture, and figuring things out as we go. Our son is almost 3 now, and he’s starting to ask questions and pick up on everything around him. That really lit a fire under me to learn more about Islam—something I honestly knew very little about.

With my husband always working to support us, I’ve taken the lead on teaching our kids about his faith. I taught myself how to recite Al-Fatiha (even though I didn’t grow up with a single word of Arabic!) and found some really great tools and books—most of them from Amazon—that have helped make this journey a little easier and a lot more meaningful.

This site is where I share what’s worked, what I’m learning, and how we’re raising our kids in a mixed faith and cultural home. If you’re on a similar path—or even just curious—you’re in the right place.

Learning as I Go (For Them)

Learning something new isn’t always easy—especially when it’s something you weren’t raised with and want so badly to get right for your kids.

When I realized I needed to play an active role in teaching my children about Islam, I felt overwhelmed. I didn’t grow up with it, and I didn’t know where to start. But I knew I couldn’t just sit on the sidelines. So I started small—watching YouTube videos during nap time, reading articles late at night, asking questions (even when I felt awkward), and finding books and tools that actually made sense to me.

It’s been a slow, steady process, but every step has been worth it. This space is where I share that journey—what I’m learning, what’s helping, and how I’m doing my best to show up for my kids, even when I don’t have all the answers.

If you’re on a similar path, you’re not alone. Let’s figure it out together.

Our Family Values

As a family, we value kindness, honesty, and respect for others. We strive to instill these values in our children and model them in our daily lives.
